KoRICA의 학술연구지원 사업은 지난 2022년 “1960년대 한국 현대미술”이라는 주제로 한 시대의 미술사적 맥락과 의의를 재발견해보는 기획을 최초로 제안했습니다. 이어서 2023년에는 “1940-90년대 활동한 한국 여성 작가”라는 주제로 한국 미술사의 주요 여성 미술가를 집중적으로 탐구하는 기획 또한 제시한 바 있습니다. 그 결과 총 세 편의 연구 논문들이 지원 대상으로 선정되었으며 현재 그 중 두 편이 재단 홈페이지에서 소개되고 있습니다.

이에 2025년 KoRICA 학술연구지원 사업은 ‘시대’와 ‘미술가’를 각각 조명하는 두 가지 트랙으로 총 2편의 연구 주제를 공모하고자 합니다.

연구 공모에 선정된 연구자들에게는 연구비가 지원되며 국제 학술지 게재 및 발표 시 학술대회 참가경비 등의 일부를 지원해 드립니다. 앞으로도 KoRICA 학술연구지원 사업은 한국 근현대미술을 통사적으로 접근하는 ‘시대’ 주제와 치열하고 창의적인 작품활동을 펼쳐온 ‘미술가’를 연구하는 작가론 두 가지 트랙으로 전개될 예정으로 역량 있는 연구자들의 많은 관심과 지원 바랍니다.

In 2022, the KoRICA Academic Research Grant Program was established to encourage rigorous scholarship in Korean modern and contemporary art. The inaugural theme, “Korean Contemporary Art of the 1960s,” prompted a reevaluation of this crucial decade in Korea’s art history. In 2023, the program turned its focus to “Korean Women Artists Active from the 1940s to the 1990s,” highlighting the contributions of significant yet often underrepresented figures. These initiatives led to the selection of three exemplary research projects, two of which are currently featured on the KoRICA website.

In 2025, the program will solicit proposals across two thematic tracks:

1. Period Studies – exploring the socio-historical contexts that shaped modern and contemporary Korean art
2. Artist Monographs – offering critical investigations into the practices of individual artists known for their creative and conceptual depth

Selected researchers will receive funding to support their work, including partial coverage of expenses for conference presentations and publication in international academic journals. KoRICA is committed to fostering historically grounded and forward-thinking research through these dual tracks. We welcome proposals from scholars whose work aims to broaden and deepen the global understanding of Korean art.
